Choosing the size

120×180 cm — for a play corner or alongside the bed in a small room. 170×240 cm — under the bed with the rug showing on both sides, so feet land on something soft. 200×300 cm — main floor covering for the room.

Mark the rectangle on the floor with painter’s tape and live with it for a day: you will see straight away whether it blocks doors, desk drawers or wardrobe doors.

Why wool in a child’s room

Wool is a natural fibre with a springy pile that recovers after furniture and footsteps, so the rug keeps its look in a room walked on and played in every day. Wool resists ignition and self-extinguishes, and it takes up excess moisture from the air, releasing it again once the heating comes on.

The pile stays pleasantly warm underfoot — a child can sit and play on the floor without a blanket.

Caring for a wool rug

Vacuum weekly with a plain head, not a turbo brush — a rotating brush pulls wool fibres out. Blot a fresh spill with a light cloth, working from the edge inwards, without rubbing. Avoid chlorine and alkaline cleaners: wool is a protein fibre and alkali breaks it down. Dry naturally, away from radiators and direct sun. For stubborn soiling, use professional wool rug cleaning.

Some shedding in the first weeks is normal for new wool — the loose undercoat vacuums away.
