What is on the rug

The drawing follows the French floral tradition: acanthus curls wind across a cream field, rose bouquets are laid between them, and the centre is marked by a small floral medallion. The flowers are muted — powder pink, sand, olive, with no harsh transitions. The border is picked out in sage green and repeats the rose motif, so the green balances the light middle instead of looking accidental.

Material and care

The fabric is machine-made from polypropylene. The pile is low and evenly sheared: the rug does not crush under chair legs and vacuums easily. Polypropylene does not absorb moisture, so stains come off with soapy water rather than special chemicals. The fibre is light-fast — a pale field does not yellow next to a window.

Room and size

160 by 230 cm is enough to cover the floor in front of a sofa, or to place the rug in a bedroom so that a strip of pile remains on both sides of the bed. Cleaning and storage

Polypropylene does not take in water, so the rug is washed with soapy water and dried. In a busy room a thin underlay goes beneath it to stop sliding on tile or laminate. If the rug is put away for the summer, it is rolled with the pile facing outwards so the backing is not creased.
