The shape

An oval is a rare geometry for a rug and the defining feature of this model. It softens the square corners of a room and works where a rectangle looks heavy: under a round dining table, in a hallway, at the foot of a bed, in a bay window. An oval rug needs no alignment to the walls — you simply centre it on the furniture group.

Pattern and colour

The composition builds outward from the centre: a round medallion with a golden rosette, a dense ring of acanthus scrolls around it, then a field of large flowers and leaves. Everything is worked in a golden ochre palette over a saturated blue ground, with two outer bands — a golden one with a leaf repeat and a plain dark navy one. The blue-and-gold contrast gives the rug a formal, ceremonial look.

Silk

The rug is hand-woven in silk. Silk pile is thin and smooth, so the drawing is detailed and the surface visibly reflects light: as the lighting or viewing angle changes, the blue moves between deep navy and bright ultramarine. That is a property of the fibre, not a dyeing fault.

Care

Silk needs gentle handling: vacuum at minimum power without a brush, keep the rug out of direct sun and away from damp, and leave cleaning to specialists.
