Wool rug 160×230 terracotta Lory Red Buff

Colour and texture

This rug is about colour and pile rather than pattern. The field is terracotta rust, and the yarn is dyed unevenly, so light and dark lengthwise bands run across it like sun-faded cloth. The frame along the edge is darker, closer to brick. A line of blue and ochre dots separates field and frame, and small yellow specks are scattered over the frame.

Wool, made by hand

The rug is hand-woven from wool with a medium, dense and soft pile. It does not slide on the floor, it dampens footsteps and the wool holds warmth.

Where it fits

The 160×230 cm format suits the space by a sofa, beside a bed or in a study. From the same series comes Lory orange 170×240, lighter and with an orange field. Contemporary plain designs are gathered in modern rugs, and hand-woven pieces are among the handmade and designer rugs.

What to pair it with

Terracotta loves white and sand walls, light oak, linen and the green of house plants. The blue dots of the frame can be echoed by a blue cushion or vase.

Care

Vacuum along the pile without a beater brush. Blot spills, and leave heavy dirt to dry cleaning.
