A dark piece behaves differently in a room than a ginger one. From a distance the field looks nearly black and works as a shadow under furniture; step closer and a ripple of grizzled, brown and charcoal fibres appears, while white marks of irregular shape open along the flanks.

The placement logic is the opposite of the pale hides: putting it on dark laminate makes no sense, the piece disappears. It is needed where the floor is light, on oak, on concrete, on grey tiles, next to glass and metal. In a room with white walls a dark shape on the floor also balances the ceiling and gathers the furniture into one group.
