How to choose a size?

Living room. Rest the sofa’s front legs on the rug and keep the coffee table fully on it. Leave a visible border of rug at both ends of the sofa. Measure your sofa’s width and the open space in front of it first. Choose a rug for the whole seating area, not just the coffee table.

Bedroom. Place the rug under the lower two-thirds of the bed, leaving a soft landing on both sides and at the foot. Bedside tables can stay on the floor. A useful starting point is around 50–70 cm of rug on each side, if space allows. Two separate bedside rugs also work in a compact bedroom.

Dining room. Chair legs should stay on the rug when you pull the chair out to sit down. Check the clearance on every side of the table. Start with 60–75 cm beyond each table edge and test with your chairs. For an extending table, measure it fully extended.

Mark the rug outline on the floor with painter’s tape. Check walkways and door clearance. Test the tape on an inconspicuous area of your floor first.
