Cowhide rug wine red with gold 200×200

Nature does not release cattle in this colour and we are not pretending otherwise: the burgundy ground comes from dye, the gold was added as a second layer. The foil patches are ragged, with clean edges, from fingernail to palm in size; they gather most densely along the spine and fade out towards the legs.

The six photographs were deliberately taken under different light. The flat layout shows how the gold is distributed, the folded shots show how the metallic changes strength: under a lamp it hits the eye, in diffused daylight it turns bronze and almost matte.

This is a loud object, so it works as a single accent: dark flooring, grey or graphite textiles around it, few competing patterns nearby. Heavy furniture should not stand on it, as legs crush the hair. The calmer piece from the same dyeing is the coral peach Cork; natural colourings are gathered in Modern rugs.
