Let us be plain about it: the field is dyed. The warm salmon coral tone comes from colouring, and the fine dark brown speckling was applied over the top and spread unevenly, in scattered drops in some places and in dense clusters near the neck and along the spine.

Half of the eight frames were shot draped. That shows the important part: the colour sits on the hair itself rather than as a film above it, and it neither cracks nor flakes on the folds. The streaks and rubbed areas visible on the full views have not been hidden either.

The format is long, 160 by 230 cm across the outermost points, so the piece suits places that need length: beside a bed, in a passage between shelving units, under a side table. The other dyed hide in stock is the wine red one with gold foil, which is far more contrasted. Natural colourings are easier to compare in Natural hides.
