Colour and pattern

The main contrast comes from the black band: it circles the medallion as a wide ring carrying acanthus scrolls with pink and beige flowers. The centre is light and creamy, with pastel roses. Outside, the rug is framed by a grey-pink border with blue accents. The black comes out graphic rather than heavy, because the light centre and border break it up.

Wool, handmade

The rug is made by hand from wool. A round shape with no corners turns the piece into a room’s own centre: furniture is easy to arrange around it in a ring. Fringe runs along the edge, and up close the pattern lines are slightly alive — the usual trace of hand work.

A diameter of 240 cm is sized for a dining table for six or the middle of a spacious living room. Its match in size and shape is the burgundy Reily 240×240. The light border relieves the black, but dust shows more on a dark field, so vacuum regularly.

Arranging furniture

For the circle to look composed, the legs of a dining table and chairs go fully onto the rug, while a sofa stands with its front legs only.
