Colour and relief

Cherry is a rug of a single colour. A deep cherry red covers the whole surface, with no border and no medallion. Instead of an ornament, fine lines divide the field into even squares, and wavy strokes and round dots are carved inside them. The design appears through changes in pile height: in side light the relief is distinct, under overhead light the surface looks almost smooth.

What it is made of

The pile combines wool and silk over a cotton foundation. The silk fibres add a soft sheen, so the red looks darker or lighter from different angles. The rug is woven by hand, and along the edge it has a flat woven binding with a thin pale thread.

Where it works

A plain red like this acts as an accent that pulls neutral grey and beige furniture together. With no border, the rug can go under a bed or a coffee table without the feeling of a frame.
