Wool rug 240×300 black-brown Dartmud

The design

The main motif is paisley, the eastern teardrop, stretched into long waves. Three broad bands run from bottom to top across the whole field, each laid out in feathers of copper, chocolate and sand. Small scrolls, leaves and flowers fill the gaps, so the black ground never looks empty. There is no medallion and no border: the rug reads as one continuous canvas.

Wool, made by hand

The rug is hand-woven from wool. A wool pile is springy, recovers well under furniture and keeps its colour for a long time. On the dark field the pile catches the light, and under side lighting the brown feathers turn noticeably paler.

Where it fits

The 240×300 cm format is meant for a spacious living room, covering the whole sofa and armchair zone. A dark rug works well with walnut furniture, brass and leather. A model with a similar name in wool and silk is Dartmut 300×400. More one-off designs are among the handmade and designer rugs, and contemporary patterns are in modern rugs.

Care

Vacuum along the pile without a beater brush. Light crumbs show on a black field, so clean it more often but gently. Blot spills without rubbing and leave deep cleaning to specialists.
