Rug Old Red 240×300, burgundy

Colour and pattern

The name Old Red describes the field exactly: the burgundy here is soft, not bright, with a pinkish undertone, like a rug that has seen a few summers. Floral shoots and leaves, lighter than the base tone, are scattered across the field. The border is cream, with large flowers and fine tracery, and it makes the centre look composed and deep.

Wool, handmade

The rug is made by hand from wool in England. Wool holds warmth and springs back after load, and hand weaving gives the drawing a living line: the outlines of the flowers are slightly uneven, which machine-made rugs never are.

The 240×300 format

The size is built for a large living room: the rug runs under a whole furniture group, not just the front legs. Handmade pieces are in exclusive rugs and traditional patterns in classic rugs. Nearby in the catalogue is Old Rust of the same size in an olive-pink range — a different model.

Worth knowing

A rug of this format is heavy: unrolling and carrying it is easier with two people. Felt pads go under the legs of massive furniture, and the rug is turned from time to time so sunlight and wear spread evenly.
