Wool rug 240×300 olive-pink Old Rust

Old Rust is a hand-knotted 240×300 wool rug in the Ziegler manner: an all-over botanical design with no dominant central medallion.

What the macro shot shows

The field is not beige but a muted olive, close to sage. Across it sit rosettes and half-open blooms in dusty rose, cream and ochre; stems and leaves are olive-green and a few flower centres are ruby. This faded palette comes from washing the finished rug. The colour attribute on this page records “Beige, Orange”, while the photographs read closer to grey-green with rose — so use the images as your reference.

Signs of hand knotting

The knots are tied by hand, so the pattern lines drift very slightly and density varies across the field. That is a property of a hand-made rug rather than a fault. The fringe on the short sides is not stitched on: it is a continuation of the warp threads. The reverse repeats the face design, which never happens on a machine-made rug.

Before you order

240×300 is 7.2 square metres and a substantial weight, so unrolling it is a two-person job. A thin non-slip underlay is advisable under a hand-knotted wool rug, otherwise the edge will begin to curl over time. Rotate the rug 180 degrees every few months so that the pile wears and fades evenly.
