Wool rug 200×300 black Dark Afshan

A black field and a warm pattern

The main contrast of this rug is a deep black ground against golden drawing. Large palmettes and flowers are scattered across the field, with fine vines and small leaves running between them. The palette is muted: ochre, camel, terracotta and sage green. Red accents are gathered in the rosettes of the border, and the eye finds them only gradually.

Border and edges

The sand-coloured border is wider than usual and repeats the floral motifs of the field in a lighter version. A narrow black band closes it on the outside, and the short sides keep a cream fringe that is even and neat, as the photographs show.

Room and pairings

A dark field hides small marks, so the rug is practical for a study, a bedroom or a busy living room. The warm pattern gets on well with wood, leather and brass, and on a pale floor the rug reads as a graphic accent.

If the room has a lot of pale wood, a dark rug becomes an anchor: it sets the low, heavy tone, and light furniture stops looking as though it floats. In pale interiors the contrast is stronger, with the black field standing out against a white or grey floor like a brush stroke, while the golden drawing picks up brass and timber.
