Wool and silk rug 200×300 beige Skarboro

The design

The field is light, sandy beige. Long arabesques spread symmetrically across it: curving stems with palmettes, rosettes and leaves. They meet in an openwork rosette at the centre and fan out towards the corners. The palette is narrow, olive, antique gold, brown and cream, so the design is rich without being busy. The border repeats the same motifs on a smaller scale, separated from the field by fine guard bands.

Wool and silk

The ground is woven in wool and the pattern with silk. Silk lies differently from wool, so the design turns lighter or darker as you change the viewing angle. The rug is made by hand, with fringe left on the short sides.

Where it fits

200×300 cm is the standard size for a living room or a large bedroom. Traditional patterns are gathered in classic rugs, and silk and hand-knotted pieces are among the handmade and designer rugs. Another wool-and-silk model in beige tones is Dartmut 300×400.

What to pair it with

The beige and gold palette likes warm light, bronze, dark wood and olive velvet. On a pale floor the rug looks soft; on a dark one it stands out.

Care

Vacuum on low power along the pile. Silk dislikes water: blot spills at once with a dry cloth and leave washing to a workshop.
