Wool rug 240×300 burgundy Kheshti

The design

The name comes from the Persian word kheshti, a brick or tile. It describes a garden layout in which the field is built from panels of equal size. Here there are six rows of eight, and each panel has its own motif: a cypress, a vase, a flowering tree. The panels alternate in colour, burgundy, olive and beige, outlined in fine blue. Narrow red bands with small ornament divide the rows. The border is dark, in several tiers, with elongated medallions.

Wool, made by hand

The rug is hand-woven from wool, with fringe left on the short sides. The wool pile is dense and springy and holds its rich wine colour well.

Where it fits

The 240×300 cm format suits a spacious living room, dining room or study. The same layout in other colours is Kheshti beige old, and a silk version of the panel design is Mi-Bramber-S 200×300. Traditional patterns are in classic rugs, and hand-knotted pieces among the handmade and designer rugs.

What to pair it with

Burgundy likes dark wood, leather, brass and bookshelves. Keep walls and curtains plain so the pattern does not compete with the room, and repeat one of the olive panels in upholstery.

Care

Vacuum along the pile without a beater brush and comb the fringe by hand. Blot spills and leave deep cleaning to a workshop.
