Design and colour

The field is a light, fresh mint green with no dark patches. At its heart sits a round medallion: a rosette of powder-pink leaves inside a wreath of tiny roses, asters and buds. A thin cream line follows the oval outline, and four large acanthus scrolls in pink and brown tones fill the field. This kind of drawing is called Aubusson style; it comes from French tapestries and looks gentle rather than busy.

Carved pile

Every leaf and flower is outlined by hand-cut grooves, so the motif stands slightly above the field and casts a shadow. The close-up photos show how the relief reads in side light. The wool pile is dense, and a pale fringe finishes the short ends.

Where to place it

A 200×300 cm oval fits under a six-seat dining table or in a bedroom, with a third of the rug tucked under the bed. In a living room it goes in front of the sofa so that the front legs stand on the pile. Pairing
