Oval wool and silk rug 250×350 Obusson turquoise

Shape and design

The rug is fully oval, and the design repeats that shape in three layers. In the middle is a cream medallion with a bouquet of roses and small flowers in a circle. A wide emerald ring embraces it, carrying golden acanthus scrolls and flowering branches. The outer border is pale, with rosettes and a ribbon, and two round medallions sit on the long sides. This scheme is typical of Aubusson rugs.

Wool and silk

The main pile is wool, while the outlines of leaves and flowers are worked with silk, so they shine more than the ground. The rug is hand-woven and its edges are tightly finished.

Where it fits

A 250×350 cm oval softens a rectangular room: it goes under an oval or round dining table, into the centre of a living room or in front of a bed. The rectangular version of the same design is Obusson turquoise 300×400. Traditional patterns are in classic rugs, and silk and hand-knotted pieces are among the handmade and designer rugs.

Care

Silk areas dislike water and stiff brushes: remove dust with a vacuum on low power and blot spills at once with a dry cloth. Leave any wet cleaning to a workshop.
